Peppers on the far end already

I saw a tiny little pepper on the Red Chili pepper at the top of the first row last night. It has been flowering for some time, but it wilted last week when I ran low on nutrient. I thought the flower that was open at the time would probably drop, but evidently it was ok, because I will have a pepper soon. The newer flowers are very strong looking.

This is from last Sunday. Everything is doing well. Some of the lettuce plants are showing the first signs of bolting. I will take them out by the end of the month and find something else to put in there, possibly more basil because I love it.

More changes

The old reservoir was too small, and after adding side supports, I replaced the 12 gallon reservoir with an 18 gallon. When the plants got bigger last year, it ran out of nutrient too quickly. Being right out in the sun, I expect a lot of evaporation and the plants are growing very quickly too, so I may have to rig some way to add capacity to the tank. The big test will come when I am away for a few days, and it will sink or swim.

2011 - some changes to the big system

I moved the system out to the lawn where it could get more sun. Last year, I grew peppers, some basil, lettuce, and mistook some yellow crookneck squash for cucumbers. Everything but the squash grew well, but I had some issues with the unit not being level, and I had some overflows. This year, hardly a drip, and it has peppers, bok choy, basil, and lettuce right now. The lettuce is bolting, and will be replaced soon.
